To the aspiring stick makers out there... - by Jon

Now I know alot of you use pivot 3 beta, and I don't have problem that. Other than the fact that it's buggy, unreliable, and uhh STILL A BETA. It does offer good features and after years of pivot without any updates to the software I can understand why some of you would use it.

HOWEVER

Stickmakers, whether you animate using 3 or not. PIVOT VERSION 2.5 is what you want to make your sticks in, especially if you plan to release them to the public.

Why?

First and foremost, you won't segregate who can use your sticks, giving them a wider audience. Simple as that. Some people don't even bother with the beta because of it's unreliability, especially while animating. That's how I personally feel and I know alot of others share this viewpoint.

Secondly, the program simply isn't a finished product. It's called beta for a reason. Its unfinished, buggy, and your sticks are liable to be ruined by a glitch. That's not something you want after hours spent making a 'masterpeice'. Trust me, I've been there. You make the stick, it's great, then for whatever reason pivot 3 closes, glitches, or whatever and you loose your work. Now I'm not saying it doesn't happen in version 2, BUT, it is at the very least less likely.

Thirdly, be future proof. According to the creator of pivot, Peter Bone, the final version won't be compatible with anything made in version 3 beta (including pivs), but will be compatible with version 2. Now this piece of info is based off of a post made by him at PA a couple years ago, so maybe plans have changed. But I ALWAYS keep that in mind when I use pivot 3 beta.

I just felt I would mention this after seeing the ever growing amount of sticks donated that are made in pivot 3.

Sup all, new sticks have been added in the past day. Sorry for the delay, been busy. I plan to keep up with them daily now though so they don't pile up like that. But that's always what I try to do, lol. Anyway, thanks for all the donations, accepted or not, it means alot and keeps this site running. Thanks again.

In other news I changed the videogames forum section to a general entertainment section to cover more subjects. I dunno if that's news worthy but there you have it...

Almost two months ago droidz lost every stk we had. We used to have about 1000. In just this short amount of time we have regained 600+. A HUGE thanks is due. So thanks goes out to everyone who has been donating, you rock.

So yah, I'm gonna remove the 'help re-build' from the header as we have already re-built so much. It's time to just look forward and build upon what is already here. Though feel free to still re-submit your old accepted donations.

In other news, yes, the new server is up and running, thanks to Adam + about 20 Pepsi's. :P It should be smooth sailing from here on out regarding that.

Unfortunately we lost two moderators recently (officially), EB and Matt James. They came in together and I guess it's fitting that they left together. I would just like to thank them for their time on the staff, you guys are awesome.

If one of your stks t hat was previously on the site has been submitted by another, please flag the stick and resubmit it under your own name. I'm trying to decline the stks in the first place, but my memory is not perfect.

In short, we lost all the sticks on the site. I urge you to donate your stks! Especially if its a stick that was already accepted to the site. We tried everything to save them. However, I lacked I hard backup to restore the stk/img files.

Its a tough learning experience, and it will never happen again, I assure you. I myself am donating all my sticks that were up before this incident, aswell as a few extras, and will continue to do so in the coming days. I will be checking the dons frequently, pretty much whenever I'm on the computer to ensure the site gets back to normal as soon as possible.

In lighter news, we have added new sections to the sticks themselves. In total they now include; Stickmen, Stick Packs, Vehicles, Weapons, Objects, Random, Effects, and Backgrounds. Also added was a email notification for donators who want to be emailed the status of their stk. This is completely optional for those of you who want to know if their stick is on the site, without having to search for it.

Again, I urge you to donate and donate often. We need it. Thanks to everyone who supports droidz. You all rock.

Edit - Keep in mind, the standards have no been lowered. I will decline sticks that do not live up to them. Otherwise that would betray the main point of this site; a place to find quality stks for pivot.
